Mrs. Mead in the Math Department

By Shriya Krishnam

With a love for problem-solving, Sherri Mead is starting the new school year with new and engaging methods to teach her math students.

While she loves her job, she became a math teacher for reasons beyond “making money.” For her, teaching is not just a career, it’s meaningful work. She values the impact she has on her students and how they perceive math.

Mead has been teaching a variety of math courses, from introductory algebra to calculus, for 36 years. While Mead enjoys teaching,”I don’t like teaching little kids, but I like teaching young adults because they are fun to work with.” she said.

Over her 36 years in the classroom, Mead has returned each year with the same enthusiasm, eager to approach new students with new techniques in lessons. She walks through her students with writing out lessons on the whiteboard and helping students with homework during class. Mead brings a practical, problem-solving skills focus to her teaching and she remains committed to helping students build a good relationship with mathematics.
