Preparing as an Underclassman Representative for LSU

By Chloe Alvarado

Junior Ximena Quiroz Nava starts the new school year as an underclassman representative for the Latino Student Union club (LSU) at Silver Creek High School.

As LSU starts this year, Quiroz Nava joins as an underclassman representative. “I want to show off our culture and people should know that we are more than Latinos,” she said. She was inspired to join to be able to spread more of the Latino community in different ways and make memories at upcoming club events. By joining this club as a representative, she hopes to become closer to the Latino community and learn more about its traditions and culture. Specifically, she is looking forward to what celebration/event LSU will have for Christmas.

As she starts LSU for the first time, she finds balancing clubs with school and sports to be easy. It’s all about the communication within schedules and planning events or meetings accordingly.

Quiroz Nava plays for the school’s varsity soccer team and has been playing since she was around 2 years old because of her dad and older brother. She says, “I would be so excited to see them play during the weekends.”

For her, being a representative means stepping forward and showing what the club has been working on. She wants to meet new people and make new friends while being in this club as it’s a way for her to be more involved with school activities. She encourages new members to attend events or meetings. Quiroz Nava says, “We are a safe place and you are welcome to come whenever you want.”
