Redesigned Track Debuts

By Madeline Tran

SAN JOSE, CALIF.– Silver Creek High School renovated its track in March.

Every 10 to 12 years, the East Side Union High School District is required to renovate the track for every high school within the district. In March 2025, construction began and the track started its long-awaited needed construction. Our track was a time capsule that trapped a lot of sweat, tear s, and pain. The faded white lines made it difficult to see the lanes and directions, and the old foam surface had cracked and deteriorated. During construction, the foam and white paint were replaced.

The new foam surface improves cushioning, safety and shock absorption when running. This allows student athletes and physical education students to have better support while running and the new white paint makes it easier to see the lanes. “The track and field now matches our winning spirit,” Principal Kelly Daugherty said. Now our new track has reopened on July 1.

Our track represents a part of our school, so we should take pride in it by handling equipment responsibly, avoiding food and picking up after ourselves.
