SAN JOSE, CALIF.—Many new and returning athletes get ready as Silver Creek High School holds tryouts on Nov. 3 for the boys soccer team

The Silver Creek Boys soccer team is officially kicking off its season with tryouts beginning on Nov. 3 and running till Nov. 11. Both new and returning players will have the chance to showcase their greatest skills and earn a spot on the team. 

When asked what Mike Anchondo, the boys soccer coach, is looking for during tryouts, Anchondo replied with consistency, energy, and attitude. To prepare for tryouts, returning and new players are encouraged to stay fit and sharpen their skills ahead of time. “Just make sure they are staying fit and working on their skills in preparation for what’s about to come,” Anchondo advised. 

Beyond skill and conditioning, one trait that will stand out during try outs and during the season is confidence. All players are expected to carry confidence with them for every game and practice. That level of confidence had led last year’s Silver Creek boys soccer team to have a successful year. The team finished with an impressive overall record of 13-5-4(wins to ties to losses), proving to themselves and to others that they are one of the strongest teams in the league. Their work began to pay off as they were named Santa Teresa Division Champions.  

As tryouts approach, a returning player, Lucas Aguirre, shared his excitement for the upcoming season and advice for new players. “I’m excited about just playing with my friends my last year of high school soccer. I’ve been playing with them for a couple of seasons already, I’m excited to see how much we improved,” Aguirre said. Aguirre had also mentioned he is eager to see what the new freshmen will bring to the team. “Just try your best. Be prepared, stay focused, don’t play around,”Aguirre’s advice for new students trying out.  

With experienced leaders and new talent on the way, try outs mark the start of another promising chapter for the program. Building off of last year’s success, there are high expectations that will set the tone for the upcoming season.
