SAN JOSE, CALIF.— Creek Camp starts the week after school ends and lasts five days on campus, with informational meetings throughout the school year.
During the week of Creek Camp, incoming Sophomores will be grouped with other campers and captains who are either incoming juniors or seniors.
Each day, there are new activities in various subjects, such as sports and art. There will be a theme related to the activity being done, which will help campers become more connected to students and faculty on campus and develop a sense of belonging at school.
Each day lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
At the end of each day, before lunch is given, there will be a debrief question to reflect on the day and the initial theme of the day. Throughout the week, campers will improve in areas such as collaboration, teamwork, setting goals, and developing leadership skills. During the activities, campers receive raffle tickets that will be drawn at the end of each day. Former camper, Azia Salido, states, “It was a very welcoming environment, and it was a chance to step out of my comfort zone. It was a great way to socialize with new people.”
As a captain, you are there to help the campers step out of their comfort zone and push them to try new things. The captains will each be assigned to organize one day, where they plan activities and help the campers bond. For example, one activity may be a scavenger hunt, which helps campers become familiar with the areas around the campus. These areas are where they can familiarize themselves with places where they can receive support.
It is a great way to develop leadership skills. “Friendship is magic, and I think it was a great opportunity to build new connections,” former captain Jennifer Tran says.
