SAN JOSE, CALIF.—Silver Creek High School welcomes Meridith Montoya De Roos to the science department. She states,“I didn’t know I originally wanted to be a teacher, but once I started, I realized that it was the right job for me,” she says.” Her path into teaching began with her own struggles in biology due to dyslexia. However, her love for science never faded.
After switching majors from animal biology to natural resource planning due to the challenges of dyslexia, she went on to teach for nine years. This year being her tenth.
Now, she teaches forensics as an elective both because of her experience and the district’s need for the course. When needing to choose between biology and forensics she says she would choose biotech. “I would want my students to know that learning is a process,” Montoya De Roos says.
