SAN JOSE, CALIF.—Jeffery Smith, a new teacher at Silver Creek High School is ready to take the stage after many years of dedication at Missouri State, and is prepared to teach business.
Smith is a passionate, business teacher who leads the elective class Accounting. Originally from Joplin, Missouri, he earned a master’s in business management from the University of Kansas City, and a master’s in education from the University of Central Missouri. After many years of study, and corporate work, Smith decided to pursue a career in teaching. In a recent interview, he said he discovered his love for business through clubs such as FBLA and DECA.
“I would recommend business, because everything is encompassed with it. Even if you don’t want to pursue a career in business, it’s an important tool to understand society and the community,” he says. Smith pursues his works and teachings in hopes of passing on what he has learned throughout his years and dedication to business.
Behind his somewhat scary and tough exterior, he has several passions outside of business and teaching. Smith played basketball in high school and college as a power forward and continues to play in a local recreational league. Smith is also deeply invested in music, serving as the lead singer for a band in the San Jose Area.
In addition, he maintains a strict routine at the gym. “You really wanna focus on what your goal is first, like if you were a football player, you would train differently from a basketball player, and you wanna know what your goal is, because then you can set your programming around that,” he says. Smith also added that sleep is essential for progress as it promotes faster recovery, and helps produce noticeable gains.
“I love Silver Creek so far, and I believe the students truly care about their education, and any improvements or changes, nothing truly comes to mind, but students getting dropped off and picked up, those processes and areas can be better streamlined,” he says.
