SAN JOSE, CALIF.—Silver Creek junior, Priscilla Robles is the president and founder of the Bread Of Life Catholic club at Silver Creek High School.
Anyone is welcome to join the club to hear the word of God, participate in any discussions and ask questions. Robles has the club not only to spread the word of Christ, but also to create a sense of community within Silver Creek.
Since her faith is very important to her she wants to dedicate her time teaching others about the values it has taught her. “For me it’s important because at the end of Mass, the priest says ‘Go forth and talk about what you’ve learned,’ so, for me, I am trying to do my part in trying to spread the word of God. You can go to church and get to know God yourself, but if you’re just keeping that information yourself, you don’t truly take it in, or do good for the people around you.”
Robles was inspired by seeing others such as the 3:16 club create their own club which was a Christian club, that she was a part of and was able to participate in teaching.
She says, “I wanted a space to talk about the Virgin Mary, the Saints, the Rosary and certain things that separate certain branches of Christianity— specifically being the Virgin Mary. I wanted to have a space where I could talk about her and show people the true value and meaning of her. So that’s why I wanted to start this club to have a space specifically for Catholicism and especially our heavenly mother.”
Outside of school, Robles goes to church on Sundays and weekdays. She is currently doing a confirmation class which is a class that solidifies that you’re old enough to know what you’re believing in and something that you are committed to partake in. She goes to these classes on Sunday after she attends church.
During Mass, she participates in altar serving and does a reading or welcoming. As well as on the first Wednesday of every month she goes to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and helps lead a certain part of the Rosary. It’s a multilingual Rosary prayer group of many different languages and she leads the English and Spanish part of the Rosary.
