SAN JOSE, CALIF. — One of the most common types of jewelry metal is gold and silver, though gold jewelry is better because it is more durable and it also comes in versatile colors like yellow gold, rose gold, and more.
Jewelry pieces like rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, hand chains, anklets and much more are typically seen in gold or silver, but they can also come in different metals too. The two most common metals have their own unique features and give an opportunity for people to add to their outfits.
In my opinion, I like gold over silver because I think that on any skin tone it adds a pop of color to the skin and brings out people’s features more. Even certain types of gold like yellow gold really makes the jewelry piece stand out.
To me gold is very bright and because of that a gold piece of jewelry alone could highlight a part of someone depending on what kind of jewelry they are wearing. Another reason why I like gold jewelry is that it also doesn’t tarnish and it also is seen to have more value money-wise.
Though the two metals create a nice additive to one’s outfit and achieve certain looks with them, they can also compliment someone’s features and skin tones. For example, warm tone people fit gold jewelry more because it compliments their undertones. The same thing goes for cool tones which fit more jewelry styles.
To check your undertones, you identify the color of your veins on your wrist. According to Louise Jade from Jade Style Coaching,“If you have cool undertones, your veins will have a blueish-purple colour to them. Whereas, your veins will look green if your undertones are warmer. Although, if your veins have hints of blue-green, then you likely have neutral undertones.”
Therefore by looking at veins it could help you decipher what you think looks best on you. Even if you think you have a mixture of both undertones you may want to experiment with both looks.
Savannah Lopez, a junior, prefers gold because it pairs well with her fair skin tone and finds that silver washes her skin tone out. Adding, “I like gold more because it compliments my skin tone and makes me look elegant and classy.”
Celine Adrong, a junior, favors silver jewelry more because she feels that it brightens her face more and “it’s cooltone factor and that brings out my makeup style.” Since she has a fair skin tone, she feels that silver brings out her complexion. And silver jewelry matches her aesthetic more because with her outfits the silver jewelry complements the outfit.
“I personally, I think gold jewelry is more flashy and more fitting for outgoing people and I see silver as a more calm tone that fits calm introverted people like myself,” said Lauren Solorio, a junior.,
However, Solorio adds how she thinks she would look better with gold, but wears silver more often instead. This is because her dad bought her a silver necklace and so it’s sentimental value prevents her from switching jewelry styles. Most of her jewelry consists of silver and is warming up to the look of silver jewelry on herself.
I personally favor gold more because to me it has a more elegant look to it and it’s more convenient to me because I don’t have to take it off since it doesn’t oxidize. Although silver is a popular jewelry option as well, it depends on what people’s color palette choices are and what they feel looks best on themselves. People have different reasons for choosing between them, such as considering if it brings out their styles or their physical features.
