Meet AI Developer: Madhuvanth Pichuka

SAN JOSE, CALIF.—Driven by his passion for technology, Silver Creek High School senior Madhuvanth Pichuka has launched his AI project, UnstableML.

His project, UnstableML allows its user base to generate high-quality videos with audio for free. Pichuka says, “The idea first came to my friend, but we both spent most of our summer working together to prototype a product using various models.” The summer after junior year, Pichuka worked vigorously with his co-founder, Samit Manjunath to ensure the project would function successfully. “At the time, my focus was more on the technical side,” Pichuka adds. When the two first started out, they primarily concentrated on how to develop the AI and make it available on cloud servers. Now, Pichuka and Manjunath are figuring out how to advance and branch out their project. Check out @unstableml on Instagram to see updates and more information!

The impressive accomplishment of developing and launching an AI at the age of 17 has prepared Pichuka for his future career. Despite this, he doesn’t plan on pursuing a job directly related to AI, but instead, server management and deployment which is his biggest passion. However, he plans to continue UnstableML in the long term.

Regarding the longevity of his project, Pichuka says, “I fully intend on developing it beyond high school, dedicating more time and effort.” Although he puts a lot of his free time into this project, Pichuka is extremely limited because of schoolwork and funds.

UnstableML’s AI generation is funded by the parents of both Pichuka and Manjunath. “They’ve been incredibly supportive of our efforts. I do feel some guilt about using their money, but they see the potential of this project and want it to succeed as well,” Pichuka says. The two founders are supported by their wonderful parents whom they express gratitude for! To further their project into a full-time career, Pichuka and his partner are actively looking for investors. With money from future investors, they’ll be able to potentially hire a team of employees and improve their services!

Aside from financial and time constraints, the complex process of AI development didn’t come easily. “One of the biggest development challenges we faced was working with open-source AI models. The documentation for many of these models was often vague, making integration complex and time-consuming,” says Pichuka. Finding the correct resources for his project was tedious and challenging, and the description of the available models was difficult to work with. It took numerous hours just to test out the various models and see what environments each of them worked in. However, the two were able to finalize the prototype and are still working to improve the overall experience for their users.

When he’s not working on UnstableML, Pichuka dedicates his time to creating content for his YouTube channel—brainstorming ideas, recording and editing videos. His YouTube channel consists of various tutorials regarding server management. Both extracurriculars highlight his inspiring love and passion for technology!
