SAN JOSE, CALIF. — Most students’ school day ends when the bell rings, but not for Paolo Gaviola. Gaviola is a junior at Silver Creek who manages to be in two clubs, multiple bands and calculus BC all at the same time.

Gaviola is in Lion Dance and Tri-M Music Honors Society at Silver Creek. In Tri-M, he is co-secretary. He’s been in Tri-M since his freshman year, but this is his first year as an officer for Tri-M. As co-secretary he goes to meetings, makes notes and forms.

Not only is he co-secretary in Tri-M he also performs for the club as well. He has his own band called Baseless in which he plays the drums. He is also the producer of one of the rock bands that play for Tri-M. As their producer he makes scores for them to learn their part off of.

Gaviola has about four events after school weekly that he attends. In discussing how heavy his workload after school, Gaviola responded with, “7.5 out of ten, but I enjoy everything I do.”

When asked what helps him work better he said, “when I get home I like to lay in bed and relax for 15 to 20 minutes.” Gaviola does this everyday and claims that it helps him focus and procrastinate less. He also feels less tired after his decompression session. On days he doesn’t take time to relax, he feels less motivated to do work.

Gaviola is currently in calculus BC as a junior, meaning that he is three years ahead in math. He usually has a pretty big workload of two to three hours of school work, not including all the other activities he does for his extracurricular activities.
