SAN JOSE, CALIF.—Bassless, a new band at Silver Creek featuring Cindy La, performed on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Winterfest. 

They performed the songs, Animal by Neon Trees and Cologne by Beabadoobee.

The other band members in Bassless include junior Paolo Gaviola, freshman Allen Nguyen and junior Preston Hsiao, the leader. A month prior to Winterfest, Nguyen asked La if she could join them for Winterfest after he heard and saw her practicing her bass.

“I was kind of nervous when performing because I’ve never really sung while playing the guitar,” La says. “But we all had a lot of fun performing on stage.

In addition to Bassless, La is a band member of Alphaverse, the Silver Creek Concert Band and Tri-M, with the Silver Creek Concert Band being the first band she joined. La also performed in Winterfest with Alphaverse. 

“I really like playing music and playing with other people,” La says, “Especially in a smaller group.” This is what La loves about being in a band, performing music and spending time with others.

She plays the bass and guitar in Bassless. She plays the bass and guitar in Bassless.  the oboe, which is an air instrument similar to the clarinet. She also plays a bit of the piano and sings.

In Bassless, Nguyen plays guitar and bass, Hsiao plays guitar and Gaviola plays the drums. The band has been together since August of 2024.

Even after Winterfest, La says she will continue to be a part of Bassless since she has become good friends with the members there.
