SAN JOSE, CALIF. — Having a homeroom would give Silver Creek High School students time to prepare for their day and get work done.
Depending on the person you are, we all have our own way of preparing for school and having a homeroom would give extra time that would help prepare students for their classes or get work done. Sometimes students tend to procrastinate because of all the assignments that are due or have to study for another class which makes them unable to find the time to work on their assignments.
So having a homeroom would give students the opportunity to go over assignments, make sure they have completed their homework from the night before and study if they didn’t get the chance to.
Additionally, the advantage of a homeroom would provide students with a space to focus without as many distractions. For some students when getting work done at their house, it can get difficult to concentrate with everything within their atmosphere and in order to get their homework done some may need quiet and the homeroom would be that area.
According to The Situation’s “Why is homeroom important?” by Ava Easterly and Kelly Horan, they make a point of emphasizing how each student is at a different place work wise like “some use it to cram in a homework assignment[s] because they will be too busy to complete it later, while others use it as a time to relax and catch up with friends.” This highlights how homeroom gives an opportunity for balance in each student’s academic or personal life.
In my opinion, homeroom would be utilized for whatever academic support someone may need or use it in any way they would like as long as it’s not distracting others from using that period for their work. Having a homeroom could also be a place to take a break from their assignments and if they have it in the morning it could be a time for students to wake up a little before their next class.
Juliana Galindo agrees with the benefits of having a homeroom, “It’s beneficial because it allows students to catch up with unfinished work.”
Overall, homerooms can help prepare for the day because sometimes we aren’t ready to go to our next class and it can be hard to focus. Therefore, we could use that homeroom period to help with that.
