San Jose, CALIF– Silver Creek High School wrestling team kicks off their 2024-2025 season with tournaments this Friday Dec. 6 2024 at Overfelt High School.
The Silver Creek High School Wrestling team will be competing at Overfelt High School, on Friday for their first tournament, called” JV Taz”. This marks an exciting beginning as they step into the competitive wrestling scene. This tournament will provide new opportunities for new athletes trying out wrestling and set the tone for new and previous wrestlers.
Head coach Av Sahota plans on taking 15 wrestlers to the Taz in search of finding areas to improve on once they return to the practice room.

A nerve wracking week for many new wrestlers but not for Santos Tizoc, who came prepared and excited for his first tournament of the season. Santos prepared by working hard in the practice room; Improving his flaws and movement. “I knew I was gonna do well coming into this tournament. I just wanted to work on stuff I need to improve on, ” Tizocs mindset and hard work earned him a first place medal at his first high school tournament. “I took first and felt good after it was pretty easy and was a nice way to kick off the season.” Tizoc’s mindset gives him an edge on opponents as his actions of dedication and discipline have cured his fear. “My mindset before the tournament I felt pretty confident, trying my hardest to not make mistakes and lose.” Tizoc hopes to keep his momentum going and reflect.“I’m thinking what I can do to improve and just get better in general.” Tizoc’ consistency to get better is great for his coaches, as he will begin to enter varsity territory at the Curt Metler tournament held in Sacramento.

Another wrestler is Jeovanni Guerrero who has been working hard in and out of the practice room; Eating healthy while practicing his areas of improvement. “I need to wrestle smart and good to have fun out there. Guerrero, being a Freshman, took first place at his first tournament of the season as well and hopes to improve on his wrestling. “Even though I got first, my mindset after the tournament was that I need to continue working hard.” Guerrero hopes to study film to see his personal areas of improvement.
