SAN JOSE, CALIF. — It’s that time of the year again—when people give and receive presents, spend time with family and friends, and share their holiday spirit. People express their joy for Christmas in many ways and music can be one of the most powerful ways of spreading cheer and the holiday spirit. So, what are the most popular Christmas songs among Silver Creek students?

Students around campus were asked what their favorite song was to listen to and many of them voiced their opinions. Kenny Williams, a freshman at Silver Creek, says his favorite song to listen to was All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey saying that “it puts me in a jolly mood for the holidays and it really makes me excited for Christmas.”
A poll was made for students to answer, asking what their favorite Christmas song was. There were 71 entries, the most popular songs being “Last Christmas!” by Wham!, with a whole 17 picks, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey with 14, and “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande with 12.
There never has to be a complex or specific reason for liking a song, it can be as simple as “I feel jolly when I listen to it.” as Vincent Luu, a freshman, says. His pick was “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.

Although the list is dominated by those three certain songs there are some less popular songs on this list that receive love as well. Ethan Le, a freshman, says his favorite is “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas” because “his voice is soothing and the song is sentimental.”
No matter whether your favorite song is on here, Christmas isn’t just about the music or even if you just don’t listen to Christmas music in general, it’s a time for connecting with your community, and for getting into the holiday mood, and spreading and bringing people’s spirits together. And most importantly make sure to enjoy your Christmas and the countless Christmas songs that will be sure to put you in that jolly mood.
