This tradition is something that everyone can come and watch with each other along with relating to one another. while bringing a bonding experience knowing that there are others a part of this culture. Crystal Sanchez, a Folklorico dancer, says, “Folklorico means like it’s a bridge to connect with my culture.”
Although Folklorico requires a foundation to be able to move with the rhythm, it can get confusing at times because of the attire. This requires focus and being able to have coordination with the music and other dancers. However with practice it pays off.
Not only does Folklorico have unique music and a unique way to represent culture, it’s also a unique way to show off the dancers. All the performers have the vibrant colors that make them stand out along with jewelry, hair accessories, ribbons and other details that bring their look together.
Additionally, watching a Folklorico performance is a great way to understand the tradition. Experiencing a performance together with friends and family makes it better because you are all watching a story together.
