SAN JOSE, CALIF.—Most people think that dropping a piece of trash wouldn’t affect the campus, but imagine if every person at Silver Creek had the same thoughts as you.
The campus cleanup was with the City Peace project and happened on Oct. 9 which landed on a Wednesday and as well as the week of the October break. Sergio Hernandez, a Freshman at Silver Creek, had a few thoughts about trash being found on the ground.
“I think the trash found around campus is horrible and shouldn’t be there in the first place”. He as well had a few words about the campus cleanup saying “I think the campus cleanup is a good initiative and improves the campus’s health”.
The campus should look clean and healthy, but like Sergio said about the trash not even needing to be there in the first place.
People forget how bad littering has come by today, which shouldn’t be a problem because of how hard it is to throw your trash in the garbage. Littering has gotten so bad that it costs the United States more than $11 billion annually, according to Hampton Public Works.
Silver Creek’s littering issue has worsened as more garbage is being found on the ground which seems like they’re almost doing it on purpose as there are trash cans everywhere
you go on campus.
Kincheloe Solomon, an employee from The City Peace Project, organized the campus cleanup for Silver Creek, but was unfortunately unable to make it to the campus cleanup. This didn’t stop the cleanup from happening as Silver Creek teachers and 70 students showed up to help clean the campus, taking three hours.
Solomon did have a few ideas to keep the campus clean with one of them being: “There should be a extra credit cleanup crew and as well people who were in trouble”. Solomon went further into the kids who were misbehaving and the extra credit cleanup crew, emphasizing about how the school should form a cleanup crew of kids who want extra credit and can receive it through cleaning the campus and for the misbehaving kids this is an opportunity to be held accountable for their actions.
