SAN JOSE CALIF.- In a surprising turn of events, and after his first year as ASB president, Benjamin Ngo decided to resign. While the reason is restricted, this allows vice president, Hillary Tran to take on that role.

As the 2024-2025 school year approaches its halfway point and the first semester draws to a close, students at Silver Creek High School are navigating a period of transition, embracing new challenges, and adapting to the changes that come with it. The beginning of this school year at Silver Creek High School was marked by unexpected hurdles. Specifically for leadership and ASB.

Without an activities director in place, this created additional stress and overtime working for both students and staff. While everyone scrambled to fill the gap, the search for a new activities director continued. While in the midst of finding a new activities director, there was word going around that ASB president, Benjamin Ngo was going to end his position as president. Eventually, Ngo made the decision to step down.

While the reason he did is enclosed, the ASB constitution states that “When the president position is left vacant, the vice president must fill that role and uphold the responsibilities that the president has” This led to vice president Hillary Tran to fill that position.

“It’s more of a responsibility since it’s also my first year in ASB,” Tran shared. “But with the support of my friends, Mr. Coloma and other ASB members have helped me with my transition,” Tran added. Erik Coloma became the new activities director at Silver Creek. Having an activities director now, lifts some stress off of the students shoulders. As for Tran she finds herself holding more responsibilities. She is at a higher ranking than the rest of the students.

Now, they look up to her as their president and expect the values of leadership within ASB. “People hold me at a higher standard now,” said Tran. While balancing school, and her extracurricular activities Tran has learned how to manage her time effectively, helping her develop strong responsibilities that can help her excel in both school and ASB. It is clear that Tran is ready to embody a new role, and adjust to the new obligations like communication and collaboration.
