The Bittersweet End for Senior Football Players

SAN JOSE, CALIF.—The last home football game of the year took place on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024 and the seniors did their best to celebrate their last football game as a team. Senior Night was a potluck where everyone could celebrate and Jordan Thompson said, “Senior Night was a good experience and we got to celebrate, I’m upset the seniors are leaving though.”

The Raiders last home game of the year left Silver Creek High School with an outstanding victory. A final score of 27-7 granted the Raiders with what could be their final victory. A congratulations well earned as the final football game of the year ends along with the High School sport experience for the Seniors. Special congratulations to all the seniors who gave it their all. We say farewell as they all prepare for college next fall.

The Silver Creek Raiders were facing off against the Independence High School 76ers, and the opening kickoff saw IHS take the ball first. The Raiders were within the 76ers 20-yard-line and Silver Creek’s starting quarterback, senior Giovanni Mejia, passed to fellow senior Jamontay Amataga for a touchdown making the score 7-0. Mejia kept the spotlight, when he threw a pass to senior wide receiver Austin Price which left the Raiders at the 5-yard-line. This left Mejia able to keep it himself, finding the endzone on the ground. The second quarter began with the Raiders backed up on their own 9-yard-line, just before Jasean Amataga broke free for a long 42 yard run to move the chains to just around midfield. They pushed the ball to the 16 yard line and Once again Mejia found Price through the air, 3rd down 8 minutes left and the ball was on IHS’s yard line.

Later on in the second quarter, Silver Creek found themselves at the 20-yard line before Jasean Amataga rushed 15 yards to put the Raiders up 21-0.Independence’s MinhVu broke off a long run giving them a chance to score atSilver Creek’s 15 yard line. With under a minute left in the 2nd quarter, Vu ended the drive with a 3 yard touchdown making the score 6-21. Mejia completed a 3 yard pass to Wooden for a touchdown, which made the score at 27-7 after a missed PAT.After kickoff, Vu passed  to Keoni Mendoza and they took it to the 40 yard line. 4th down and the ball is on SCHS 20 yards. 2nd down SCHS at the 38 yard line. 1st down with a minute left and the ball on the 29 yard line, Sophomore  Cameron Williams ended the game with a sack that finished the game with a final home win for SCHS.
