SAN JOSE, CALIF. — Silver Creek finally has an official activities director. Since early in the year, there has been no one to fill in for the position, but now someone has been chosen to take over.
Being an activities director comes with more than a handful of responsibilities and work from planning school events like homecoming, nonfire, lunchtime events and planning with clubs.
When asked about what he wanted to accomplish as an activities director, Erik Coloma said, “As the new activities director, I hope to work with ASB, Leadership class, student clubs, staff and the greater student body to create events that are inclusive for all Silver Creek students. I hope to contribute to making all of our students feel a sense of belonging at Silver Creek. We have such a vibrant community here, and I hope to contribute exciting and effective programming for our school.”

Coloma also added, “There is a lot for me to learn in a short time because I started mid-year. My previous experience in college admission programming will assist in my transition in my new role. I am excited for the challenge and can’t wait to start planning with our students. I think one of the biggest hurdles is getting the word out to all our students and staff. We have an amazing community at Silver Creek that is ready to participate.”
Being the new activities director, Coloma now teaches the leadership class. Some of the leadership students were interviewed for their opinions about this.
Larry Meas, a freshman in leadership, said, “With Mr. Coloma being the new leadership teacher it could affect the way that we do things now because he has a new set of rules, different from Chu. But, this allows us to work as a team now that we have a permanent activities director.”
Meas also voiced his opinion on whether Coloma would be good at his job, saying, “I think Mr. Coloma would be a good activities director because he knows how to keep everyone in line and we can rely on him more than as just a teacher.”
