7 Periods are the Key to Success!

SAN JOSE, CALIF. — Silver Creek students should take 7 class periods to further their education for college.

Seven periods in a school day is beneficial to students for several reasons. It allows for a wider curriculum; this allows students to be exposed to more subjects and therefore find their interests. With more time taken by the classes, the potential for deeper learning exists such as critical thinking skills.

Such a busy schedule helps students develop important skills such as time management and be able to be organized, which will be very important in meeting the demands of college. Seven periods allows time for classes that offer more education and prepare students for success in college and the future.

Although having seven period school days has its advantages, there are many disadvantages. Students easily get tired because their busy schedule gives them little time to rest or do extracurricular activities, often leading to stress and fatigue. Seven periods will take up most of the student’s day and could cause their schedule to be packed.

Seven periods makes it hard to cram in all of your assignments and could make students feel rushed to complete all of their assignments. A heavy schedule may create some problems in students looking to balance school with things outside of school such as jobs and personal commitments. Overall however, seven periods will be able to help students with various topics, but it usually overwhelms them and makes learning much more difficult.

However, Ethan Tran, a senior who has had seven periods in his sophomore year, says “Taking seven periods provided me with an extra layer of education that set me ahead.” From Tran’s experience, it shows how taking seven periods will help students grow and become prepared for difficulties in the future.

“It provided me more duties to strengthen my sense of responsibility,” says Tran. Taking seven periods will help you grow and be more prepared for the difficult future. Tran tells us about his experience of taking seven periods. A good sense of responsibility can allow you to have a successful future.

From what I have seen, taking seven periods really has more benefits than harm. I regret not taking seven periods as I find myself often bored of my homework and classwork. I finish them quite quickly and I feel like if I had taken seven periods my previous years, I would be much more knowledgeable regarding education and my responsibilities.

While it is true that a heavy academic schedule may overwhelm you at one time or another, it has greater advantages in keeping you motivated to manage your time wisely and be ready for the tight schedules at college. Moreover, this develops one’s ability to prioritize tasks, organize his or her time, and structure well. These will go a long way in helping not just at school but in your professional and personal life later on.
