SAN JOSE, CALIF—At Silver Creek School, a group of freshmen comes to the school almost every night to skate, and bring people together.
At Silver Creek High School in San Jose, a group of freshmen has turned late nights into fun and exciting skating time. The group includes Jayden Tongson, Dat Tu, and Sean Untlan. Nearly every evening, they gather on campus, turning boring stairs and sidewalks into their skate park. The thrill of skating at night makes strong friendships, as skaters share tips, show their tricks, and enjoy the late-night skate.
Tongson has been skating since he was in the 6th grade. His older brother inspired him to start skating, which led him to encourage his friends to do the same. Skateboarding affected his life in many aspects, such as the people he hung out with, how he dressed, and how he acted overall. Tongson has always been that kid who would be very quiet and reserved. Skating has opened opportunities to meet more people.
Tu and Untalan have been the friends who stuck with him on his skateboarding journey. They skate almost anywhere, as Sean says,” When I skate, I’m in my own little world.” They skate in parks, Schools, at home, and many other places. Usually, Tongson and his friend skate at night since it brings a better vibe to the skate.

“What makes skateboarding fun is the challenges. You feel accomplished once you get the trick down, especially after multiple failures”- Dat Tu
Tongson would one day like to start his skateboarding club. He hasn’t started one because they don’t have the funds to buy boards for those who want to join. Either way with or without a club Tongson is very welcoming and doesn’t mind if you join the.
You can skate with him late at night whether you know how to skate.” You don’t have to be great to get started, but you have to get started to be great,” says Jayden. So, to all the skaters out there, don’t be afraid to skate with Tongson when you have a chance.
