Katelynn Nguyen Promotes Powerful Women By Creating The ‘Women In Business’ Club!

SAN JOSE, CALIF.—Katelynn Nguyen, co-president of the new ‘Women in Business’ club, made her own club for the 2024-2025 school year to create a safe community and educate students of Silver Creek with the information needed to succeed in life!

Katelynn Nguyen is a 16-year-old junior that currently attends Silver Creek High School. She worked with her friend, Ana Passera, at the end of her sophomore year to begin building their club.

“Me and Ana were interested in business, wanted to find people like us, and create a safe space for them,” Nguyen commented.

Nguyen was inspired by others who were planning for their future and wanted to start preparing for hers. She took inspiration from colleges that had ‘Women In Business’ clubs and wanted Silver Creek students to have that same opportunity.

At the beginning of this school year, they had filled out a club charter and submitted a constitution to teacher advisors, a few weeks before club rush started. The process of attaining her officer board was quite simple, as she already had friends from Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and sought out those who she knew would be interested in pursuing business in the future.

The main challenge she faced was getting herself out there and exposing the students of Silver Creek to her new club. The officers partook in Club Rush, where Nguyen was met with overwhelming support from friends, teachers, even her guy friends, who signed up and took pictures with their props, which were then posted on social media to promote the club.

Coordinating with the other officers posed to be a simple task. They were all in other clubs and knew how to manage their own time, so overall communication and delegation was easier than Nguyen expected. However, finding time to meet up with each other was not so easy. A majority of the officers are juniors and seniors who are busy with classes and college applications. Still, they are determined to provide what is necessary for the club to succeed.

To Nguyen, this club is not just about pursuing business in college. Her goals for ‘Women In Business’ is to solidify the foundations of the club by planning for the future, reaching out to more girls, and ultimately developing funding for the club to jump-start this process.

She believes that everyone should give it a chance because it’s a great way to explore what business is about, and see if it’s the right fit! The skills that she shares are applicable to many different skill sets and majors, and are a part of a lot of things in daily lives. She says it’s “good to invest in the future.”

The main focus of the club targets young women, but they keep their doors open to anyone who is looking to find a community or friends while also educating yourself! Nguyen hopes to promote her peers learning more about themselves and what their future might entail.

“It is important to prepare for your future,” she said, “It doesn’t start in college, it starts in high school.”

Finances and money investments are a crucial aspect of life that everyone has to deal with, so Nguyen urges students to join her club to learn how to set themselves up for success while also enjoying a community that provides a safe, and fun space.
