SAN JOSE, CALIF– Halloween is arriving, so Silver Creek raiders have picked the top ten Halloween movies to get into the holiday spirit.
The top movies Silver Creek students picked were “Scream”, “Corpse Bride”, “Hocus Pocus”, “The Nightmare Before Christmas”,” Goosebumps”,” Coraline”, “Ghostbusters”, “Casper”, “Halloween”, and “Monster House”.
Around twenty students were asked to fill out an online poll for their ten best Halloween movies. Their reasons for the movies they chose were simple. Some picked the movies because they had either watched them before, they are entertaining or because they found them nostalgic.
“I grew up with these movies, so they are special to me.”Kairi Batten says, “Kind of helped me develop a love for Halloween”.
“For me,” Chloe Rivera says, “These movies are my favorites since they are really nostalgic for me.”
One of the most popular Halloween movies that Silver Creek students chose is a classic, “Scream”. The film’s premise revolves around a high school student named Sidney Prescott who, a year after her mother’s murder, becomes the target of a serial killer who people call “Ghostface.”
Another movie enjoyed by Silver Creek raiders is a 2005 stop-motion film by the famed director Tim Burton, “Corpse Bride”. Corpse Bride is set in the Victorian era and begins when a young man named Victor accidentally weds himself to a dead woman while reciting his wedding vows.
“Hocus Pocus” takes place on Halloween night when a boy lights a candle that resurrects three evil witches known as the Sanderson Sisters. The boy, with his little sister, friend and a talking black cat join forces to stop them from becoming immortal and terrorizing the town.
“The Nightmare Before Christmas” is another stop motion film and musical that Tim Burton has worked on. The story follows Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s Pumpkin King, who becomes tired of the same old routine of scaring people. But he finds a new joy in his life when he discovers Christmas and plots to take it over.
In the movie “Goosebumps”, a boy after moving into his new town accidentally unleashes the monsters and demons from the author, R.L. Stine’s famous horror series, Goosebumps.
In the film “Coraline”, a girl named Coraline moves into her new home and discovers a little door. Through the little door is a world almost exactly like her own, except her “other family” has buttons for eyes and is much more ideal, until her other family tries to keep her there forever.
“Ghostbusters” takes place in New York City and focuses on a team of three scientists who lose their positions at a university. To earn a living, the team decide to become “ghostbusters” and protect the city from the paranormal.
“Casper” is about a friendly ghost named Casper who befriends and falls in love with a girl called Kat after her father arrives at the mansion that Casper and his uncles haunt to communicate with them.
“Halloween” follows Micheal Myers, a mental patient who murdered his older sister during Halloween night when he was 6-years-old. After 15 years of being locked up he escapes the facility and returns to his hometown to search for his new victims.
In “Monster House”, three teenagers discover that their neighbor’s house is actually a living being that plans to eat trick-or-treaters on Halloween night.
