First Grading Period Comes to an End

SAN JOSE CALIF.— As the first grading period concludes on Sept. 13, staff and students across the East Side Union High School District are finalizing grades for the first progress report.

While these grades are being sent home, they do not impact students’ transcripts and GPAs. However, staying on top of your classes early is essential to long-term success! Remember, there are three grading periods before the actual semester grade and two semesters every school year. The fall semester finalizes right before Winter Break on Dec. 20, 2024, and the winter semester ends on the last day of school, June 4, 2025.

Teachers are working hard to submit grades to Infinite Campus by the end of the day on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Progress reports are expected to be mailed home within one to two weeks following Wednesday. Students and parents are encouraged to check grades regularly on Canvas to stay updated and ensure consistency between the two applications. If you notice any irregularities, either email or talk to your teacher when they’re available to address them.

In the past two months, several events have taken place, including, Club Rush, the Fall Rally and Suicide Prevention Week. Be sure to check out photos from Club Rush on our website!  If you haven’t already, follow @schsraiders on Instagram or listen to the morning announcements to be informed of upcoming events.

Events such as NonFire, that is coming up in October are open to all grades. Aside from attending NonFire, students are welcome to participate by dancing and/or acting with their grade levels. Find more information by checking the Instagram page according to your class. It’s highly recommended as it is a great way to meet interesting and new people from all over the district!

From Todd Seal’s overall experience with the first grading period, the Silver Creek English teacher said,  “Like every year, I’m again very lucky to have the students that I do. This year, I noticed a lot more politeness—more students are saying ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ back to me.”

Seal’s school year is off to a great start! One reason he remains positive each year is his gratitude towards his students. He’s excited to be recognized not just as a teacher, but as a fellow human being as well. It’s great to hear how student behavior is improving every year, hopefully, all teachers feel this way!
