SAN JOSE, CALIF. —Unlike last week, the Raiders main threat was their passing presence, scoring three of their season high four touchdowns aerially.

Varsity starting quarterback Gio Mejia completed all but one pass, throwing 10/11 while racking up 173 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

All three of those touchdowns were thrown to senior wide receiver Austin Price, who was highlighted by 49ers Cal-Hi Sports (@49erscalhi) on Instagram for his standout performance.

Silver Creek (2-0, 0-0) ended up defeating Homestead High School (1-1, 0-0), 33-14.

Homestead was coming off a dominant 42-18 victory over Yerba Buena High School, and were considered favorites on MaxPreps. As we know, the Raiders shut that down.

The first score of the game came on a safety, putting SC up 2-0 in the first quarter.

The Raiders were rolling in the first half, where they scored 30 of their 33 points. Three of the TD’s went to the aforementioned Price, and Jasean Amataga punched one in on the ground. Although the highlights of the game were through the air, the Raiders run game was also strong, running for 107 yards over 26 carries.

The Mustangs tacked on two touchdowns in the second half, but Silver Creek’s first put offensive output was too much to overcome.

Defensively, Jasean and Jamontay Amataga both shined, with a combined ten tackles and three tackles for a loss. Senior cornerback Jasean Amataga and sophomore cornerback Gustavo Tello got an interception each, helping boost the Raiders defense to only 7.0 points allowed per game through the first two matchups.

Freshman kicker Saxton Sinatra was perfect on the night, nailing all four extra points and adding a field goal in the second half to go along with it. He also pinned Homestead inside the 20-yard-line three times on his five punts.

Silver Creek are the visitors for the first time this year against the San Jose High Bulldogs, on Friday, September 13 at 7:15 p.m.
