SAN JOSE, CALIF.— A senior at Silver Creek High School, Jerry Dang is trying his best to make the most of his final weeks on the SCHS track team.

He was born in San Jose, California into a family of five. During his two years running at Silver Creek, he has become one of the most talented runners on the entire team.

Dang didn’t even start as a track athlete, he wrestled during his freshman year! Unfortunately, he had to quit wrestling after only one season of competing. After that, his sisters persuaded him to run for the track team, and he quickly fell in love with running! Despite all this, track and field or wrestling is his favorite sport that Silver Creek offers. He enjoys Cross Country the most because, “I like exploring and cross country allows me to do that, while track restricts me by constantly running in loops over and over again.”

Not only does he just like cross country better, he’s extremely skilled in it as well! He holds the fourth best time on the Montgomery Hill Course in the history of Silver Creek. He cherishes that race as his favorite memory in his high school Cross Country career.

Back on the track, his favorite memory is running the 1600m anchor leg at the Dublin Distance Fiesta last year. The 1600m, or one mile, is Dang’s favorite event in track and field since he believes, “it is a perfect mixture of both speed and endurance.” His fastest time in the mile is 4:49, which accompanies his 800 meter PR of 2:09, and his two mile PR of 10:55!

Off the track, Dang wants to pursue a major in Kinesiology whilst studying at a community college. If that doesn’t work out, he says that any medical career will be fine!
