SAN JOSE, CALIF. — ILLIT, a new HYBE girl group has officially debuted with their first extended play ‘ Super Real Me’ to immense love.

ILLIT’s first extended play ‘Super Real Me’ was released on March 25 to all platforms. The EP features four tracks, all of them teased on March 15. The songs being: “My World”, “Magnetic”, “Midnight Fiction” and “Lucky Girl Syndrome’’. The whole EP clocks in at around nine minutes with each song being under three minutes. Their title track ‘Magnetic’ has already reached number one on the top and hot 100 on the Melon Charts, South Korea’s biggest streaming service. They have managed to earn two music show wins.

The EP starts off with our first track “My World” an intro to the EP. “My World” is a deep-house R&B track which features a prominent bass line and a lush synth. The vocals on the track are full and melodic making the somewhat simple production sound complete. “Magnetic” is classified as a pluggnb with a fast bouncy bass and eight bit chiptune sound effects in the background. Pluggnb is a subgenre of trap that contains elements of R&B and hip hop. The genre utilizes heavy bass, vocal chops and smooth dreamy synths.  The vocals are airy and choppy like a video game soundtrack. “Midnight Fiction” is an indie bedroom pop song with a dreamy guitar and a fast drum. The airy vocals are stacked on top one another in the background and the instrumental blends in with the singing form the members to create this sleepy soundscape. “Lucky Girl Syndrome” is an upbeat pop song with whistles and a plucking guitar, the pianos in the background make the song come alive. The vocals are bright and bouncy giving the song a lively feel.

The members of the group were chosen via a survival show. A form of reality television in Korea where the final line-up is determined through judges and viewer voting. One of the girls from the final line-up Lee Young-seo (이영서) left the group before debut for reasons undisclosed by HYBE. The oldest member Noh Yunah (노윤아) was the last member picked during the shows finale. Park Minju (박민주) was the third member picked and had experience as a trainee for YG Entertainment, who is known for managing groups such as 2NE1, BLACKPINK and their newest group BABYMONSTER. Sakai Moka (さかい もか ) was announced as the fifth member and is apart of the Japanese line. Lee Wonhee (이원희) was the first member picked and was chosen through fan votes. Hokazono Iroha (外園 いろは) was the fourth member picked and is apart of the makane line which are the youngest members of the group.

While some fans are calling the group a mere copy of NEWJEANS, another kpop girl group from HYBE which debuted back in 2022 with their EP ‘NWJNS’. But most people have accepted the similarities and just appreciate the music like Silver  Creek freshman student Kevin Tran, “I loved ILLIT’s debut especially Magnetic. It’s so cute they ate so bad with this I fear”.
