SAN JOSE, CALIF— With spring right around the corner, the Silver Creek Track and Field team has begun practicing after school.
With a rigorous workout schedule, Silver Creek track athletes are getting back in form for meets, which start on March 13. Unfortunately, signups for the 2024 track season are closed, but the track team could still use help, whether that be as a team manager, or helping with meets. If you don’t feel like helping, cheering on your friends is always a viable option!
The Raiders start off their season with a home meet versus Independence High School on March 14. Unlike other seasons, there are only four meets this season, different from the usual eight meets like it has been in previous years. The other meets for the 2024 season include: at Evergreen Valley on March 21, senior night versus Piedmont Hills on March 28, and the final league meet of the season away at Lincoln on April 17. The postseason starts on April 24 with the Santa Teresa Division finals at Lincoln High School. The Central Coast Section (CCS) finals are taking place on May 18th at Gilroy High School, and the Raiders expect to have multiple runners competing in this prestigious event this year.
The most reputable invitational meets include Arcadia, which takes place on April 5-6. Multiple Silver Creek athletes will be taking part in this highly competitive and esteemed event this season.
To all incoming freshmen and rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, joining the track team next year is always an option. Junior star runner Andre Chaney says, “Track and Field is a fun experience and you will meet a lot of new students.”
Track practice is from 4:30 to 6:30 every weekday, including Fridays, so if you plan to join the team next year expect to be out late! It is important to make sure to plan accordingly to maintain academic success while being a part of any sports team, especially the rigorous sport of track and field.
