SAN JOSE, CALIF.— Krystal Mai, a junior at Silver Creek High School, has been thriving as a Vietnamese singer in the Bay Area as well as participating in many different events here and abroad.
These past few months, Mai has been spending her time organizing a youth event with the theme of “Xuan Va Que Huong” which roughly translates to New years, and hometown. She has planned everything from the choreography, coaching, and directed the band to ensure a vibrant showcase.
You can find Mai during her free time practicing and recording different songs! Although Mai’s main focus is Vietnamese songs, like “Caphe” by Min, she often sings English songs as well. Mai says “One of my favorite songs to sing in English has to be Christmas songs. I’ve chosen to perform ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey many times and i never see myself getting bored of it”
After high school, Mai strives to continue her passion for singing and attend a music related college. Some options that she has been considering for a while now are schools like LACM (Los Angeles College Of Music) or San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She plans on gaining a singing career and continues to pursue her skill. Come find Mai performing this week on March 10, 2024 at Grand Century Mall at 12-4 p.m!
Krystal Mai has participated in many events here located at San Jose, like Christmas in the Park, Xuan Xanh, community events, and many more. She has recently visited France over summer break and held a tour with aspirations to spread Vietnamese culture. During her tour, she and her group Thuong Ca Tieng Viet, which roughly translates to ‘Celebrating Vietnamese’, danced and sang along many different songs.
