SAN JOSE, CALIF. — Kanye, “Ye” West, and Ty Dolla $ign, two very well-known artists, came together to make ¥$ and they dropped Vultures 1, their first collaborative album.
People have been seeming to really enjoy the album so far. They have created a few beats that are pretty unique and unlike anything that anyone has heard before. West’s alternative rap style accompanied by Ty Dolla $igns voice has made their collaborative songs even more distinctive than others.
The most well-known song on Vultures 1 so far, “Carnival” featuring Rich The Kid and Playboi Carti, has caught people by storm. The song earned a whopping 23.5 million streams in the U.S. as of Feb. 25. It also gained 177.3k posts on TikTok as well as hundreds of millions of streams on the platform.
The album cover features West dressed in a full black outfit with his face covered along with his partner, Bianca Censori, wearing very minimal clothing with her back to the camera.
Many of the tracks on the album sample beats from other artists which has been controversial. Two songs West tried to drop were not allowed to be released as he couldn’t obtain permission from artists such as the Backstreet Boys and Nicki Minaj. West performed a song at a Vultures release party that featured beats from a song by Ozzy Osbourne which received backlash from the artist on social media later on. Osbourne said, “… he is an antisemite and has caused untold heartbreak to many … I want no association with this man!”
Along with this, “Good(Don’t Die),” a track on the album, was taken down since it featured beats from one of Donna Summer’s songs. West used her sound without her permission and this led to Summer’s estate suing him and Ty Dolla $ign.
Despite all the backlash directed towards West, he has continued to impress with his music and is continuing to make lots of profit. Even though people are aware of West’s antisemitism and careless personality, they still continue to support him through his music. Even students at Silver Creek may be avid fans or just casual listeners of West. Johnny Escalante, a senior at Silver Creek, says, “His music feels official and new … no matter his success he doesn’t let it stop him from growing and that’s something that you have to admire.”
A lot of the respect that West gets is due to the fact that he has been a producer for years and has worked with some of the biggest people in the music industry. Hugh McIntyre from Forbes Magazine explained that West could be completely independent and he would still maintain his status and support which is proven by the release of his and Ty Dolla $igns newest collaborative album.
