How To Have A Blast During Winter Break!

By Sophy Martinez

SAN JOSE, CALIF. — In February’s upcoming winter break from 19-23, there are tons of fun activities and places to go to in San Jose.

Go out and treat yourself to new foods! Many local East Side restaurants serve many types of different foods. Ranging from desserts, snacks, sides, and entrees.

If you are feeling a nice cold treat, Yogurtland is a great and nostalgic place to treat yourself and friends. They have many flavors and toppings you can add yourself. There is also Baskin Robbins and Icey Poki. Baskin Robbins isn’t typically busy and they charge per scoop. Mix and match flavors and toppings with various selections and cakes!  Or have a delicious and satisfying poke bowl at Icey Poki. Poke Bowls typically have a base ingredient, protein, toppings, and sauce. Icey Poki has a variety of choices including sushi, tacos, burritos, and bowls.

Feeling hungry? Mexican food that leaves you feeling satisfied is available at Tacos a La Parilla, Taco Mania, and Chavez Taqueria. These places have various delicious foods like burritos, tacos, fajitas, tortas, and drinks like horchata, jamaica, and agua de pina. Local fast food restaurants nearby include Taco Bell, Mcdonalds, In N Out, and Wendys. Most of them have drive through and walk-ins which are easy to access if you prefer not to exit your vehicle or sit down and eat.

If you feel nostalgic, take a trip to Chuck E. Cheese! All ages are welcome and have fun with their new electronic game cards and new modern arcade games. Everyone loves pizza and prizes.

Since California’s Great America will only be open for 10 more years, seize the opportunity! Although it opens on March 23, you can plan ahead for spring break and purchase their day pass or all day dining passes. “Visiting Great America was really fun and made me love going on roller coasters, can’t wait for its opening” said Silver Creek student, Jessica Martinez. And Happy Hollow Zoo, which has rides and animals, is open year round. Take your siblings and have a great time, seeing all the kinds of animals.

Want to lounge, play, and shop? Eastridge is a local mall where you can walk around and shop. Its open all week from 10 am-8pm everyday except Sunday, from 11am-7pm. Round 1 which has bowling, pool, arcade games, and lots of food, is located on the upper level of the mall. Aloha Fun Center is also right next to eastridge. They have roller skating, games, and food. Aloha does have an age policy that if you are a minor you need your parents consent to sign a form, so checking in may take  some time. Afterwards you will be able to rent and or buy your own roller blades!

Lake Cunningham

Local Parks like Brigadoon, Hellyer County Park, Lake Cunningham, and Dove Hill are all beautiful parks to be. Have a picnic, walk and play with your dog, and play on the playground. Brigadoon is known for its cement slides that you can go down with cardboard and it goes fast. Lake Cunningham is quite flooded in some of the picnic areas but the park is safe and has bike trails, exercising equipment, and large picnic areas. All these options for your upcoming winter break! What will you choose?
