A Look Into Ms. Gonzalez and Ms. Espinozas Friendship

SAN JOSE, CALIF— Kylee Gonzalez and Jocelyn Espinoza, both teachers at Silver Creek High School, are one of the most well-known teacher pairs on campus. Here’s the inside scoop on their relationship!

Gonzalez and Espinoza have been friends for roughly three years now. Gonzalez has been teaching at Silver Creek just a bit longer than Espinoza. They met for the first time at a staff meeting. In my interview with Gonzalez, she said, “I remember seeing her sit in front of Ms. Phan and I and thinking to myself that we were going to be friends, and we’ve been friends ever since.” They began to build their friendship when they were being mentored by the same coach. They clicked instantly and it all went on from there.

Now, Gonzalez and Espinoza hang out outside of school nearly once a week either before or after school it’s coloring together, going out to eat, or just gossiping with one another. They are even going on a girls’ trip in April to New Orleans with Jennifer Phan and another teacher from another school.

They share similar interests and tastes in clothing, food, books, etc. Gonzalez and Espinoza have a few favorites to recommend. Their favorite brand is Baggu and they consider themselves “Baggu Girlies”. Their favorite coffee spot is Con Azucar Cafe up on Silver Creek Valley Road. They also love to go to Sprouts for sushi and sandwiches after school.

After spending all this time together they say that they see themselves as sisters. Gonzalez says that she admires Espinoza’s youthful yet motherly qualities as well as the passion she has for her job. She sees her more as a little sister but despite that, she still thinks that Espinoza would make a great mother. Espinoza says that she sees Gonzalez as an “It Girl”  and that she is “too cool, so nice and so giving.”

Gonzalez’s advice for best friends going through a tough time is “People can change and so can your friendship and that’s okay.” She elaborates on the fact that things can change in a friendship but there’s no reason to start drama, “let people do what they need to do,” she says. Along with this, Espinoza says “Your real friends will always have your best interest at heart.”
