SAN JOSE, CALIF. — Silver Creeks campus, while still being a beautiful campus, can be inconvenient to the students during lunch especially when it rains with the only places to go being the limited amount of awnings and K-building.
The school has had lockers in the past before but has never been an indoor school, which can pose a problem especially during peak pre and post summer heat as well as the winter months when it starts to downpour. Our campus doesn’t have a designated lunch spot. Lack of cover from the rain along with the cold weather can pose a threat to the students health.
So where can students go? And how do they feel about it? The campus has the overhang with lots of tables underneath to eat lunch, they also have tables near the D-building with umbrella-like covers and the awning near the library. The school has lots of canopies but not much room for tables and bigger seating areas.

Also most of the awnings available cannot facilitate the population of students that attend Silver Creek. While there are many places to sit here most of the seating areas do accommodate cover from the rain or other types of weather. Here is what Silver Creek freshman Sophia Kelsey had to say about the lack of cover.
“I usually have nowhere to go during lunch when it rains, and I really hate it that we don’t really have a space to be covered from the rain. I hope the school will find a solution for this, maybe opening up the gym for students to take cover.”
The addition of seating with covers can help students to study during breaks and lunch without having to get their papers wet and eat without their food getting soggy. Encouraging the idea of studying during lunch can help students manage their work, or help them get higher scores on tests due to the spare studying time. The addition or opening up more areas with cover will benefit the students of Silver Creek.
