SAN JOSE, CALIF.— Hey students of Silver Creek, if you happen to find yourself flying solo on Valentine’s Day, don’t worry! Instead, consider it the perfect opportunity to celebrate yourself, your friendships, and your independence. Here’s a high schooler’s guide on how to make the most of Valentine’s Day!

Treat yourself:
Kick off the day by indulging in some self-care. Whether it’s a relaxing bath, ordering your favorite meal (if possible), or spending the day lounging in your pajamas, prioritize what makes you happy. Take this time to focus on yourself and enjoy the things that bring you joy.

Friendship Appreciation:
Reach out to friends and maybe ask them to hang out, spend the day together, maybe go to the movies, or get something to eat. If you can’t go out, plan a virtual hangout! Play games or watch movies even if you can’t in person. Create something for them to show how much they mean to you, whether that be a homemade card and some candy or flowers from the store.

Express Gratitude:
Take a moment to reflect on the positive aspects of your life. Write down things you’re grateful for, whether it’s your achievements, the people in your life, or personal growth. Expressing gratitude can bring a sense of contentment and appreciation for the present.

Creative Pursuits:
Engage in creative activities that you enjoy. Whether painting, writing, playing an instrument, or any other form of artistic expression even playing video games, use this time to nurture your passions and explore your creative side. It’s a great way to channel your energy into something fulfilling.

Before I had a partner, I remember feeling sad and alone on Valentine’s Day. However, I learned to enjoy Valentine’s Day by doing things for myself, my friends, and my family. For example, I watched movies I couldn’t get to before, cooked myself something to eat, and played my favorite video games, Minecraft, Roblox, and Five Nights At Freddy’s. Last year, although in a relationship, I bought my friends flowers and Starbucks. I made my partner a gift basket, and I got my sisters their favorite candies. This year, a Silver Creek high school student, Jovanna Palacios shares some insight on her plans, “This Valentine’s Day, I’m spending it with my girlfriends, we’re all going to get each other gifts just to do something special for one another, it’s a special holiday even without a partner.” Celebrating Valentine’s Day is a chance for personal enjoyment and celebrating different relationships. Whether you’re single or not, it’s important to show appreciation to the ones you care about!
