Gas vs. Electric Cars, Which Should be the Future?

By Yathin Karthikeyan On Nov. 28, 2023

SAN JOSE, CALIF. — California is planning to prohibit the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035, to improve the environment for the future.

The state of California, as well as eight other states, are making huge changes for the future. The goal is to have new cars and trucks to be zero-emission vehicles by 2026 and stop the sales of new gas cars. Although this doesn’t mean that gas cars are banned, it encourages the sales of electric cars, which is a great step in advancing modern technology, but it does have a lot of criticism.

A lot of people like this change as it will help the world since vehicle pollutants contain greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change, and other parts of the community sees gas cars as better performing and a lot better than electric cars. As well as the car sounding better and it brings excitement to a lot. Tradition and heritage is also another reason why a large part of today’s community prefer gas cars to electric cars, as gas cars are more iconic to them. Although electric cars are more modern and have a lot of environmental benefits, I personally prefer gas cars as it does give more character than electric cars.

With major concerns about climate change, electric vehicles are likely to take charge, but won’t in a quick notice. As well as being ahead in energy efficiency, better technology, and other economic factors, gas cars don’t have a lot ahead of their replacements. Although electric cars have a higher price tag upfront compared to gas cars, fuel for electric cars is about $500 a year whereas it can be over $1,000 for gas cars. As a student and a teen who will need to learn to drive soon, I would take a gas car over an electric as it is cheaper up front and as well as cheaper to maintain. Another factor is budget, as mentioned before that electric cars

Car enthusiasts can be of any age, a lot being high school students. Ace Aclibon says that gas cars give more “personality” than electric which is just “techy and futuristic.”  Personally, I agree as I like gas cars that expresses more passion than a car that is just modern.
