SAN JOSE, CALIF. – Around 8:40 p.m. on Nov 3, “Frankenstein,” the new Drama class’ first full play, came to a close with the dimming lights of Raider Hall.
Altogether, the production was made from the work of 105 different individuals. Weeks of preparing scripts, designing costumes, setting props and lights, and practicing acts have culminated in preparation for the play. As a result, a dramatic reproduction of the original novel by Mary Shelly was made for the school to witness.

In the couple of days before the final productions, sneak peeks were shown to certain classes, giving actors experiences with a new audience.
Many families, friends, classmates, and those simply interested in the play attended the final productions. Across the three performances, there were about 150 tickets sold, with about 65 Silver Creek students enjoying the show for free.
The production was considered a success by Gabrielle Koizumi, the Drama teacher and director of the play.
Most actors were proud of their work. Arrianna Sumler, the actor for Mary Shelly in the Saturday afternoon cast, said, “I think I did pretty well.” She believed that the practice performances, like the sneak peeks shown to classes, helped a lot since it helped her learn to remember lines. In the next performances, she hopes to improve her acting by looking at the audience more to show that she is reacting, not replying.
In general, the audience reception was positive. Many said that the acting was full of emotion and characterization. Being the first full play of the year, some recommended a few improvements. “For the main cast, the roles were chosen appropriately. They really embody the characters they were supposed to be portraying,” said Asher Cao, a student audience member for the Friday performance. “It was good,” said Sowmya Ramalingam, a student who saw all three performances to support a friend, “I liked the effects.”
The next planned Drama production will be “Mean Girls” on March 6, 8, and 9. As stated by Koizumi, vocal and dance auditions have already been completed, with rehearsals being planned. This play is planned to have a basic set and rely mostly on the strength of performers.
