East Side Union High School District has extended Thanksgiving break and compensated for the longer Thanksgiving break with an earlier beginning to the school year. Originally students wondered why the school year was beginning earlier, but when it was told that students would receive longer breaks students were happy with an earlier start to the year. Zion Tuscano, a senior at Silver Creek said “To me, longer breaks are worth the earlier start time.” Students agree that longer breaks will allow them to accomplish more and worry less about school. Students believe the longer break will benefit them by allowing them to destress from school work and allow them to do things they enjoy. They will also be able to complete upcoming things in their own lives

With students anticipating the Thanksgiving break it brings up the question, what will students be doing? When asking Andy Toung, a senior at Silver Creek about what he would be doing over break, he said, “I’m excited because imma get to sleep a lot.” While some students may be using the sleep to catch up on sleep, others will use the break to finish upcoming due college applications. Jordan Nguyen, a senior at Silver Creek said “I’m gonna finish college apps and chill over break” with the stress of college application. The break will allow students to focus on finishing their college applications and allow for them to relax a bit over the break. Students who have already completed applications have mentioned that they will be spending their time playing video games or doing things they enjoy over the break. Students are encouraged to enjoy the break and dedicate time to themselves.
