Athletes Prepare as High School Soccer Begins

SAN JOSE, CALIF. — The soccer season is coming quickly as athletes finish conditioning for tryouts that have already started at Silver Creek High School.

With the football season coming to an end, the long awaited high school soccer season is just around the corner for the boys. At SCHS boys have already finished their conditioning for the upcoming season. With tryouts starting, they prepare to be in top shape.

Conditioning is held in the fitness room, after school, with intense cardio workouts, runs, and weight training. Students come after school throughout the week to prepare. Coach Michael Anchondo conducts training sessions for people who want to get in shape for soccer. Being physically fit for all the running and quickness needed in the actual game are practiced here for explosiveness on the field. On top of that, building muscle is an important part of the game, which is why athletes also train in the gym.

Many athletes have gone to conditioning, but what do they think about it? Jesse Cruz Larios is a freshman at SCHS and attended all the sessions as well as going to try out for the team. He says, “It pushes me to do things that I haven’t done before but I am glad that I am being pushed.”

As well as many other people who attended, they find conditioning pushing them to their limits, improving every time they go. Most people say their favorite part is weight lifting, which is hard but more relaxing to do after their school day, and their least favorite was the running part. With conditioning being concluded, athletes prepare on their own for tryouts.

After tryouts, the teams would play a series of scrimmages (practice games) to prepare them for the actual season starting in January, which is their first official league game. The season will continue until the second week of February.
