SAN JOSE, CALIF. — The campus of Silver Creek is very beautiful, but that doesn’t mean it is immune to improvement, and there are a lot of additions that could help students through their daily life.

Expanding the library can be a big factor in improving a student’s work ethic. For one it provides a third place where they can study, read or hangout with their friends. According to an article by The Good Trade, a third place is an accessible public spot where you can connect with other people whether you know them or not. This is a great way to be able to make friends. An article by California State Library, “73% of Americans said that their libraries provide a feeling of community.” A library expansion can also help with students who need a place to work after school without having to walk anywhere. 14-year-old Silver Creek student Melina Hewitt says, “I think the library would be so effective in helping me study in a larger environment.” A bigger library can also give students resources for information if they don’t have the money to afford things like the internet.

Adding more seating is something that could be a big improvement in this school. Sitting on the ground is hard and not having a table to eat your food or do work at lunch is a hassle. Seating can help give you space to put your things and overall be more convenient. An article by SIS says “that benches can accommodate many people at once and makes spaces more inviting.” This can help the air feel more lively. Benches are also an expandable piece of furniture and can be many intricate shapes and designs.

This one is more of a personal thing but having a cafe in the library could be great for studying after school. Although the thought and price might be a little out of touch, a cafe has a lot of benefits for students. Cafes can boost creativity. According to an article by Spoon University, “a study from the University of Illinois said that people came up with more creative ideas when surrounded by the ambient sounds of a coffee shop.” The lightly bustling background helps us think in more innovative ways. Not only can it be aesthetic, it also impacts the students’ work force in a positive manner. Keep in mind that this is only a luxury and being able to afford this is way out of budget.
