Three Day Kaiser Nurse Walk Out

By Sophy Martinez

SAN JOSE CALIF.- On Oct. 4, more than 75,000 nurses working in Kaiser Permanente across the country including California, all walked out to raise awareness and speak on how they have been overworked and overwhelmed.

After Covid 19, nurses were not provided a fair wage and had a serious shortage of nurses. Kaiser nurses had enough and made a stand for themselves and for future Kaiser nurses.

Kaiser Strike

Eighty percent of nurses on stroke were from California. Many were able to voice their concerns at the strike and on social media. The nurses hoped that the Kaiser leaders would make changes and aid them.

They demand for more nurses and higher pay to not be overworked. Right outside hospitals and main streets is where the protests were held. Many people had signs and microphones to help voice their concerns. They had also worn purple to show their support for nurses.

In San Jose, 11th grader, Guy Leijah, from James Lick High School attended the strike and said, “Give fair pay and pay for their workers as they should’ is a chant we did”.  I’m annoyed that it even happened, if Kaiser would only pay their workers it wouldn’t have to happen.” Nurses spoke on being hesitant to strike because of the ongoing shortage and worry of their patients, however, asking for help was vital. Kaiser has yet to speak on the issue as nurses are getting more and more impatient.
