Students Concerns & Opinions Regarding The New K-building In Silver Creek

By Gisselle Becerra

SAN JOSE, CALIF.-  The new K-building at Silver Creek High School is now open and accessible to all students- yet students are concerned about their safety and learning experience regarding some fixing yet to do.

Silver Creek High School’s new K-building has finally been opened with a beautiful two-story modern look. Students are content yet have many questions regarding the elevator, speakers and bathrooms. Ever since the building has been open, the bathroom there has remained closed leaving students needing to walk even further to get to a restroom. Students have also been unable to listen to school announcements and bells due to the speakers not being installed yet.

A student at silver creek high school Sofia Vazquez, who attends a class in the K-building says “I feel as if since the bathrooms are closed and too far it takes away precious time away from class having to walk a lot to get to an open bathroom which can lead to one being lost or confused in class because of how long it takes to walk to and back from the bathroom.”

Since both students and teachers are unable to hear any of the announcements and bells, It leaves the students and staff unable to listen to the morning announcements everyday. People wouldn’t know if anything serious or urgent happened on campus.“It would be greatly appreciated if it would be fixed as soon as possible, everyday teachers have to use time out of their lesson to read out the announcements to inform the students,” says Sofia Vazquez, a student at Silver Creek High School.

The elevator being unavailable could also be a risk. In case of a fire or other emergency, a non-functioning elevator can slow the evacuation process, especially for individuals who have difficulty using stairs which can increase the risk of injury or harm to students and staff.
