SAN JOSE, CALIF- Through Sept. 18, Wendy’s began their one cent burger promotion for their app users in celebration of nation burger day. Customers who purchased through the app were able to buy the junior bacon cheeseburger for one cent with any other purchase.
Customers may use the promotion until Sept. 24, 2023. With all the popularity of the one cent burger Wendy’s employees were overwhelmed with a large amount of orders . The Wendy’s on Capitol near Silver Creek saw longer wait times per order. When interviewing Luiz Enriquez, an employee at Wendy’s on Capitol said, “it smells like broken people every time someone orders it.”
Wait times jumped from an average of three minutes per order to six. Employees were asked to stay overtime to deal with the large amount of orders. When interviewing Dennis Donaldson, a student at Silver Creek High School and a worker at the Wendy’s on Capitol, he said “I stayed about two hours overtime without a lunch break… Our location was pressured to close our indoor dining earlier than scheduled.”
Workers closed the dine in in an attempt to limit the amount of customers so they can direct their efforts to completing drive thru orders. In total drive-thru server 158 orders on Sept. 18 from 5-8p.m. 123 of those orders were customers who used the promotion.
The dine in of the Wendy’s on Capitol had papers and trash lying around on the floor. Employees did not have time to focus on cleaning the dine in with the amount of orders present. The tables had trays and stains on them and the chairs were miss aligned and scattered. The trash bins were full and the accommodation area was mostly empty. Most orders were requested to be bagged to go due to the poor condition of the dine in area.
