SAN JOSE, CALIF. – Famous celebrities Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez are currently a hot topic on the internet after Bieber posts a controversial TikTok targeted at the latter.

With the previous history of the pair being pitted against each other for both being involved with famous pop singer Justin Bieber, it’s a surprise to see the two being entangled in another internet feud. 

In Jan. 2023, Bieber posted a video with celeb friends Kendall Jenner and Justine Skye mouthing to a TikTok audio that stated, “I’m not saying she deserved it, but God’s timing is always right.” Fans then started speculating that the video was targeted at Gomez, as during the same week, Gomez was facing serious body shaming attacks from trolls on the internet. 

Bieber took the video down shortly after, saying she never comments on topics as serious as body shaming. Gomez later commented on a fan’s reaction to the video saying, “It’s okay! I don’t let these things get me down! Be nice to everyone!” Though it was never fully confirmed that it was not targeted toward the actress,  I feel like it’s such a coincidence that it was posted within the same week.

“I feel like the TikTok audio that Hailey used, was too specific to use during that same week.” says a senior from Silver Creek high school.  “In my opinion, I’m on TikTok 24/7 and I never see the ‘God’s timing is always right’ audio, so it couldn’t have been popular at the time. I also think that Hailey deleting the TikTok, addressing she would never body shame, but also never addressing the Selena situation, just doesn’t sit right with me. I feel like everything is a ‘coincidence’ is just really odd.”

Shortly after in Feb. 2023, fans were speculating over Bieber and another one of her friends, Kylie Jenner, seemingly bullying Gomez after she had posted a video on TikTok about her eyebrows. Gomez had stated that she “accidentally” laminated her eyebrows too much. Jenner then took to Instagram to post a story with the caption, “This was an accident?” Following this was another story showcasing a closeup of Bieber and Jenner’s eyebrows. Fans then decided to flood their TikTok comment sections, calling the girls out for being “childish” and labeling them as “mean girls.” Jenner quickly commented saying that she didn’t even see Gomez’s post, to which Gomez replied back with, “Agreed.”

What really added fuel to the fire of this entire situation was Gomez commenting on an old resurfaced TikTok of Bieber throwing shade at singer Taylor Swift during an episode of “Drop the Mic” where celebrities would participate in different rounds of rap battles against each other.

Gomez commented, “So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game,” which fans believed was Gomez confirming the drama going on between the two celebrities. Although many fans are believed to be on the actress’s side during this drama, many agreed that this was a low blow for Gomez and that she should have left it alone and not commented on the post at all. It definitely adds fuel to the fire and, honestly, it puts her in a terrible position.

Shortly after, Gomez eventually surpassed Jenner in being the most followed woman on Instagram, but she ultimately decided to take a break from social media. She states that although she is happy and doing well, she’s “too old for this.” 

Though this is where the drama is, Selena fans have been adding fuel to the fire by finding old information about times when Bieber was found being “obsessed with Selena,” which has recently been all over, not only TikTok but pretty much every platform.

There is a lot being resurfaced, but one popular theory is that Bieber reportedly copies the actress, and a certain similarity includes Gomez’s famous “g” tattoo positioned behind her left ear.

Gomez explained that her cursive “g” tattoo behind her ear is a tribute to her little sister Gracie, which she got in 2015. During the same year, Bieber had gotten the same tattoo in the same position, but the meaning behind her tattoo is still unknown. There have also been videos resurfacing of Bieber following the past couple (Selena and Justin) on dates, which is absolute fan behavior. 

I myself am on team Gomez. I think Gomez, honestly, just wants to live her life and keep doing what she loves, which is such queen behavior. Bieber really has been caught sort of trying to impersonate a lot of stuff Gomez does, and the tattoo really just confirmed it for me. The fact that Bieber and the Jenner siblings both worked together to try and get Gomez to stay away from Justin Bieber before the two got married is just absolutely crazy.  They seriously need to grow up and leave Gomez alone. Nepo privilege!

Could Bieber be obsessed with Gomez? Possibly. Could Gomez have been in the wrong for commenting on the drama as much as she has? Also another possibility. One thing’s certain though, the internet as a whole is collectively standing with Gomez throughout all of this!
