NEWJEANS is the future of K-POP!

SAN JOSE, CALIF. —  New sensational 5-member girl group, NewJeans, blew up overnight thanks to their fresh vocals and a take on a 2000’s concept. These young girls have accomplished so much in just 6 months. Many believe this teenage group will be the next big thing in K-pop.

On July 22, 2022, NewJeans debuted with their lead single “Attention”, followed by their full album “Ep. New Jeans”, which was released on August 1, 2022. The group consists of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. The oldest member is 18- years old, while the youngest is 14 years old. Although there was a big outrage for how young they are, it has not stopped them from growing in popularity.

NewJeans has been given the name “monster rookies” for setting an all-time record for the best-selling album by a girl group, accomplished on the first same sale date. This 5-member group has won many awards, such as “Best Digital Song” and “Rookie Artist Award” at the 2023 Golden Disk Awards, an annual Asian music award festive. They’ve also been placed on “Billboards Hot.100”.

The monster rookies released their newest single “OMG” on all platforms on Jan. 2, and the music video gained more than 6.9 million views on Youtube in less than 24 hours. Kim Tran, a student at Silver Creek High School exclaims “ I love NewJeans so much! It’s so cool that there is an idol the same age as me. Their songs all sound different and they don’t have the same rhythm every single time. That’s what I really love about them.” 

NewJeans have been rising more in popularity lately, many students speak about, and sing their song “OMG” throughout classes. They have international fame which is a huge accomplishment in the k-pop industry. NewJeans have set many records, which will be hard to surpass. They really are the next 4th generation leaders in K-pop.
