SAN JOSE, CALIF. — Lily-Rose Depp is currently under fire after a recent interview in Elle Magazine of her claiming she is not a nepotism baby, provoking her angered fans to call her privileged.

Lily-Rose Depp is an actor, model, and daughter of the famous actor Johnny Depp and the famous French singer and model Vanessa Paradis.

In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Lily-Rose Depp explains her feelings towards being called a “nepo baby”, which is short for “nepotism baby”, a child of famous parents.

She claims not to be a nepotism baby because the term is harmful and has a sexist tone since it is only used for women. I understand where she’s coming from, that being called a nepotism baby is harmful. It erases all their hard work and emphasizes how nepotistic men would get praised, while nepotistic women receive all the hateful and backlash comments.

What got me and many of her fans angry was her denying her privilege. Lily-Rose Depp most definitely has privilege, because compared to other models, she would not be an ambassador at sixteen years old for one of the most popular high fashion brands in the world, Chanel, if it wasn’t for her last name. If any other ordinary model were to do the same, they wouldn’t be able to do so because they don’t have the same privilege as Lily-Rose Depp.

“If somebody’s mom or dad is a doctor, and then the kid becomes a doctor, you’re not going to be like, ‘Well, you’re only a doctor because your parent is a doctor.’ It’s like, ‘No, I went to medical school and trained.” – Lily-Rose Depp

She compares herself to a doctor, which makes no sense because they’re two completely different fields and situations. With the example she used, the kid still has privilege if their parent is a doctor. The kid can get help and guidance from their parents, because they have experience and advantages, such as putting in a good word for them.

“The last name Depp would get you anywhere. She sounds ungrateful because she has no background in the field, but still gets chosen, while others don’t have that same opportunity.” – Vyvy Mai

Lily-Rose Depp has so much privilege, not only because of who her parents are, but including the fact that she doesn’t have to worry about making money for a living, finding a job, competing with other models, and more due to her parents being rich and famous. She doesn’t have to work or train as hard as the other models do thanks to her last name. It is hard to understand why she denies her privilege.
