Emerald Nghiem’s latest love for a new sport:

SAN JOSE, CALIF. – Emerald Nghiem is a student here at Silver Creek with a love for sports. She’s a freshman and recently joined the badminton team. Her hobbies include reading books, playing games and watching Netflix. Her favorite game is Valorant.

Nghiem just started playing badminton this year when her friend convinced her to pick up the sport and join the team. She also recently learned that both of her parents played this in high school. The support from them and her friends pushed her into trying out for the team. It took a lot of practice, but she eventually made it.

Nghiem has many talents. One in particular is her ability to play the piano. “I’ve been playing for as long as I can remember, I think I started about 7-8 years ago.” She also attempted playing the ukulele and the violin but it turns out string instruments are not her forte. On the weekends, Nghiem spends time with her family, especially with her grandma and aunts. Occasionally, she would also practice badminton with her dad.

She enjoys reading books in her free time as well. A few of her favorite books are “Looking for Alaska,” “The Book Thief,” “The Fault in our Stars” and “They Both Die in the End.” Her favorite genres are romance, adventure and mystery.

Nghiem excels in managing her time with so much on her plate. She still manages to spend time with her family and work hard in school. She wants to be either an optometrist or a physician when she grows up and is working towards that goal. Overall, Nghiem is a talented athlete and musician who values her time with her family and friends.
