SAN JOSE, CALIF. –Wardell Stephen Curry, also known as one of the most famous NBA players, is out for the rest of the regular NBA season as he suffered from a foot injury on Wednesday, March 16. The game was against the Boston Celtics. While fighting for a loose ball with Marcus Smart, Curry’s foot got jumbled in the mess, and he left the court in a hobble.

Curry has been known to revolutionize the National Basketball Association. Starting his career in 2009, Curry was drafted to the Golden State Warriors in Madison Square Garden and has not left the team since. Since then, Curry has become a household name, having the second most bought jersey in 2019, being a three time NBA champion in 2015, 2017, and 2018, and receiving the Most Valuable Player award in 2015 and 2016.

Smart, a point guard for the Celtics has been receiving backlash from Warriors fans, insinuating that he made a dirty play. Many basketball watchers say as Smart dove for the ball, he purposely fell in a way that would knowingly injure Curry. Others say that he was just hustling for the ball. Draymond Green, teammate of Steph Curry for nine years and three time NBA champion, got into the conversation, inputting his opinion to the press saying he didn’t believe it was a dirty play.

As for the update on Curry’s injury, X-rays noted that he had a sprained ligament in his left foot. Curry emphasized in his own statement that he is optimistic about returning to continue playing in the Playoffs. This came after the Warriors reported he will not be returning for the rest of the game.

Viren Halaharivi, a guard on Silver Creek High School’s basketball team says, “You can’t fault a player for diving on the floor for a loose ball. It was a clean basketball play, and it was just unfortunate that Steph got injured in the process. I think people are mad because it was Marcus Smart who made the play, who is a notorious physical player in the NBA.”
