The Silver Creek Track and Field team started off their season with a bang as they went head to head with the Leland Chargers. It was a beautiful afternoon to host the Chargers, a perfect day for running.
A notable performance was from the freshman runner Andre Chaney, who was previously mentioned in an article displaying his resume as a runner. He set his personal record during the mile run where he placed second, hitting a 5:20 mile for the first time in his high school career. After his amazing performance, he was ecstatic, but pretty tired, saying, “I’m really tired but super impressed with my performance.”
The women’s 4×100 relay team shined for the Raiders, taking first and second place in the race that featured four teams, two from each school. On the other hand, in the men’s 4×100 relay, every single team competing got disqualified in a really strange turn of events.
In the last handoff zone of the men’s 4×100, every single team competing missed the zone to hand off the baton, which meant there was no winner in the highly competitive race. For those who aren’t aware, there is a 20 meter zone for the runners to complete a handoff, which consists of handing off the baton whilst running at high speeds.
In the women’s 100 meter dash, Chika Nwachukwu and Keana Mahava got first and second place, respectively, which led the Raiders to a win in that event.
Overall it was a respectable start to the season for the Raiders’ track and field team, and great motivation for Silver Creek when they go up against the Westmont Warriors.
