Halloween Reflections

The Raider Review Staff reflects on their favorite Halloween candy, costumes, and memories.

Favorite Halloween Candy

Christal Tran (Grade 12): Definitely Swedish Fish because I like gummies and Swedish Fish is not too sweet but just enough for you to enjoy it without feeling any major sugar rush.

Jenny Le (Grade 10): I like Twix because it is the perfect mix of caramel and biscuit.

Mindy Tuong (Grade 12): My favorite Halloween candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I love the short stubby mini version that rolls around during Halloween—the proportion of salty peanut to sickeningly sweet chocolate is perfect.

Max Alexander (Grade 9): Any fruity candy, especially Starburst because I like all the different flavors.

Nisha Bhilave (Grade 12): My favorite halloween candy is sour patch, because I think it is the perfect blend of sweet and sour.

Favorite Halloween Costume

Thu Nguyen (Grade 11): My favorite Halloween costume that I’ve worn is cupid. I think it’s not as popular as devil/angel but definitely more unique. The costume is also easy to put together and very low maintenance.

Stephanie Gonzalez (Grade 12): This year I’m going to be Adam Sandler and i’m very excited for it.

Sylvia Lopez (Grade 11): My favorite Halloween costume was my first Halloween costume, which was an m&m. I think it was definitely one of the cutest costumes I’ve worn and it’s fun to look back on as I’m older.

Naimat Davariar (Grade 12): My favorite halloween costume is JASON because my brother is scared of him.

Lara Agpoon (Grade 9): My favorite Halloween costume was this zombie cheerleader outfit I wore because I won the “scariest costume” award.

Yesenia Rocha (Grade 12): My favorite halloween costume is when I painted half a skull on my face because it took time and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to.

Alexia Torres (Grade 12): My Favorite halloween costume would be my Cinderella costume because I had a big sparkly dress and a crown; I felt like I was a princess.

Abby Cordobes (Grade 11): That’s so hard! I think my personal favorite was when I was Rapunzel from Tangled in 1st grade. I just look really cute in the costume looking back; I think it fit me personally. I also have been doing group costumes the past few years, and my favorite of those was we all dressed as pirates.

Gabryela Reynoso (Grade 11): My favorite Halloween costume that I’ve ever worn would probably have to be the time I dressed up as Vanellope von Schweetz from Wreck-It Ralph in fifth grade. The costume itself was really warm and comfortable which is always a plus and it was kind of fun having the pretend candies and licorice in my hair.

Ashley Nguyen (Grade 12): My favorite Halloween costume is inflatable costumes, they’re just so funny, I laugh every time I see them.

Favorite Halloween Memory

Jasmine Sessoms (Grade 9): Favorite Halloween memory would have to be this group Halloween costume contest in 7th grade with my friends where we dressed in animal onesies. It was really fun to see other contestants along side us.

Trina Vu (Grade 9): My favorite memory of Halloween is going trick-or-treating around my neighborhood as a kid. It was very fun and I got loads of my favorite candies. I’ve kind of grown out of my sweet tooth so eating candy is not as enjoyable as when I was younger.

Sunny Walia (Grade 12): Probably the last time I went trick or treating. It was like 5th or 6th grade, and we just went around the neighborhood. We stole this whole basket of candy too, not our problem they left it out.

Vedant Janapaty (Grade 10): Halloween 2015 was arguably one of the festivals I cherish the most. I went trick-or treating with my friends, and on that same day my team won a hockey championship.

Andrew Yoshioka (Grade 12): Back in the third grade, I dressed as Ash from Pokemon, and these adults outside recognized it and were really impressed with how well it looked. I was very happy with their compliments. Another was when I dressed up as a friend’s main in Super Smash Bros.band the fact they struggled to get it, that was funny.

Tina Le (Grade 9): In 7th grade, my friends and I baked Halloween cookies and it was very yummy. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of it but this was our inspiration.

Mayur Rajan (Grade 12): My favorite memory is me and my friends trick or treating at a house and getting chased by their dog for 6 blocks.

Angie Batten-Chow (Grade 9): My favorite memory of Halloween is when I went trick-or-treating with my relatives/friends and collected a lot of candy. I particularly enjoyed sorting out the goods that I received after returning home.

Zaki Abbasi (Grade 9): When I turned down people from coming to my house for candy. Do it every year.

Tara Nguyen (Grade 12): Halloween was never really my thing, gore makes me squeamish and I never liked attention so good costumes were never my forte. However, one of the greatest memories I have had was when I stayed in with my friends to learn the trials of making rice Krispy treats and watch spooky kids movies. We were in onesies in the backyard next to the fire pit watching Halloween town and the Nightmare Before Christmas.

And remember kids, never use parchment paper to line baking sheets for rice Krispy treats.
